How to take better photos of your children at home.
In this modern world of technology, we have never had it easier when it comes to the ease of using a camera. Even our phone cameras are up there with decent quality and colour correctness. The main thing you must master to take better photos of your children is LIGHT!! Light is number one for creating high-end photography, so you must consider light to create more beautiful and aesthetically pleasing photos.
Natural light from the sun is all you need to take incredible photos, but the timing needs to be right. I deliberately waited until the light from the sun was coming through my window, but it wasn't direct. This means the light is soft and flattering. The white of the bed duvet aided in bouncing a little light off my daughter's face, too, helping to lift the shadows slightly.
Shadows are your friend. They create depth and atmosphere, and I personally love them. Window light again is all you need. The photo above has the bassinet placed below a window to the left of the image. And again, I choose the right time of day to grab the shot.
Monitor your window light for a few days before your photoshoot, and note when you get the best light. Then once you get a good day, you are already organised with a plan of attack to get some beautiful photos.
Get creative.
Photographing your kids through windows is a fun and creative way to photograph your children at home. It is also a great way to catch them off guard to get a more natural expression.
You can apply all these tips to photographing your older children, too, but they are more challenging as they don't want to sit for a long time. So, pick your moments, know your window light and start putting extra thought into your photos. You will get much better results along with starting to understand light and how much it impacts your photography.
Play around and use your window light to get creative.
