Newborn lushness.

Documentary style.

What to expect and how to prepare for your in-home newborn shoot!

Documentary-style newborn photography, named “lifestyle newborn photography” in the industry, is a relaxed way of having professional photos taken in the comfort of your home.

It suits the laid back Kiwi attitude and it was undoubtedly the photos I personally wanted when I had my baby girl.

I will travel to your home and document your family embracing your newborn in his/her new surroundings. I will capture the whole family, individual connections, siblings and all the beautiful details.

Children can be themselves, pets are welcome and I can document your natural family environment.

Although a more documentary approach to newborn photography, I will certainly be there to guide you through the shoot and make sure you look wonderful throughout.

What to expect

I will be utilising natural window light. Together we will discuss the best time of day for your session so that we have the most flattering light for your photos.

Two rooms are ample, usually a lounge, bedroom or nursery. Anywhere you guys feel comfortable hanging out together is perfect. I can bring a neutral duvet/comforter and pillows to dress your bed if you like.

Natural lighting

Newborn photo sessions can be as quick as one hour, but considering feedings, burps, snuggles and sleepy times, sometimes they run longer, even up to a few hours. I'm there for as long as it takes to capture your story. I love documenting feeding times too, so if you feel comfortable with that, we can get some beautiful shots.

Newborn photos are best taken in the first couple of months to capture those tiny features and to help document the early days when things are a little crazy. However, up to the first year of life is incredible for a lifestyle photoshoot.

What to wear

Neutral colours certainly work best in these types of photos. Muted tones and natural fibres look beautiful. A colour palette is a great way to choose a set of colours for your family.

Avoid stripes, multiple people in patterns, vibrant colours, logos and text on clothing.

Everyone's hands will be featured in your photos, so please have tidy nails and hands.

If you have any questions I still need to answer here, please get in contact, and I would love to share more information with you.

Warm regards,
