Matangi Dairy Factory- Lawrence & Barbra’s engagement shoot

Grit, Romance & a Bit of Beer – An Engagement Shoot at Matangi Dairy Factory

When Barbera and Lawrence told me they wanted something a little different—gritty, industrial, and unique—for their engagement session, I was so on board. I absolutely love a challenge and anything that pushes me creatively, so I got straight into location scouting.

After a bit of digging, I landed on the perfect spot: Matangi Dairy Factory.

If you haven’t been, it’s seriously worth a visit. This place oozes character and history. It’s a privately owned gem that's kept much of its original charm, while now housing boutique shops, the Bootleg Brewery Ltd (yes, where they brew the beer on site, serve it fresh on tap, and offer up some delicious snacks), a funky bus café, and even a kids’ playground. All tucked into the bones of an old New Zealand dairy factory—how cool is that?

Shooting here gave us the perfect mix of texture, mood, and raw industrial beauty, with just enough edge to make these engagement photos totally stand out. Barbera and Lawrence were all in, bringing so much fun, connection, and easygoing vibes. We explored alleyways, crumbling walls, quirky corners, and even managed a little cheeky stop at the brewery (because... why not?).

These two are such a great reminder that your engagement shoot should feel totally you. Whether that’s barefoot on the beach, dressed to the nines in a forest, or walking through an old factory with beers in hand—I'm here for it all.

If you’re dreaming of an engagement session that’s a little bit different, full of personality, or in a location with a story to tell—I’d love to hear your ideas and help make them happen.
